1. Clean Around the Outdoor Unit

Your outdoor condenser needs ‘room to breathe.’ Clear away grass, weeds, and debris from around the unit. Aim for at least two feet of clearance on all sides to ensure proper airflow and heat exchange.

2. Check the Condensate Drain Line

A clogged drain line can cause water damage or force your system to shut down. If you see water pooling around your indoor unit, your drain line might be blocked. You can often clear minor clogs with a wet/dry vac.

3. Inspect the Insulation

Check the foam insulation on the outdoor suction line (the large copper pipe). If the insulation is frayed or missing, your system will lose cooling efficiency before the air even reaches your home.

4. Professional Annual Inspection

Once a year, it’s wise to have a professional check your refrigerant levels, clean the coils, and inspect the electrical components. This ensures your system is ready to handle the hottest days of the year without failing.
